Can Foods Really be Used as Medicine?

For years I have heard about food being the actual medicine we need for a healthy life, however too often I find myself drawn to foods that are not so healthy for me. The big food corporations have made bad foods way too available for us, and each and every day our bodies become more addicted to these foods and sicker from these foods.

What do you do about bad food as a nation or even locally? We continue this destructive habit because we are always in a hurry to get somewhere and yet we don’t really know where we are going!

What do I mean by “Bad Food”? When I refer to bad food, I mean food that is often grown in labs, spliced by science and not necessary food grown in the ground. This Bad Food is filled with processing for the sake of preservation, however this can also zap out nutrients.

Our bodies do often not recognize this type of food, due to synthetics used in these foods and then our bodies does something interesting. Our body fights against synthesized foods, and as a result we suffer from all kinds of symptoms and illnesses.

Recently I discovered that my addiction to busyness has lead me away from the kitchen and from doing one of the things I love to do which is cooking! Instead I consume processed ready-made foods because I feel I need to be constantly on the go!

Recently in the past year I encountered a return of a chronic health issue, which I was diagnosed with when I was just eight years old. This condition is entitled Crohn’s Disease. What is Crohn’s Disease?

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by inflammation of the digestive, or gastrointestinal tract. In fact, Crohn’s can affect any part of the GI tract, from the mouth to the anus, but it is more commonly found at the end of the small intestine where it joins the beginning of the large intestine. It can also affect your skin, joints or eyes.

Thankfully my Crohn’s condition is only affecting the GI tract in me, however shortly after my diagnoses with Crohn’s, I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis at age twelve!

What is Ankylosing Spondylitis? Pronounced ank-kih-low-sing spon-dill-eye-tiss, or AS, is a form of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, although other joints can become involved.

Ankylosing Spondylitis causes inflammation of the spinal joints (vertebrae) that can lead to severe, chronic pain and discomfort. In the most advanced cases (but not in all cases), this inflammation can lead to new bone formation on the spine, causing the spine to fuse in a fixed, immobile position, sometimes creating a forward-stooped posture.

I have suffered much from these conditions and had a few surgeries because of these chronic conditions, by which the medical community say there is no cure. Although, I have surprised my doctors over the years, by still pressing on and not becoming completely handicapped.

The 2 Week Diet

After much trial and error through the years with remedies that did little to no good, I finally discovered a website that speaks of foods that heal. What types of foods heal, you may ask?

One site I found boasted a Healing Foods Diet that consists of eating equal amounts at 33% each of clean protein sources, healthy fats, and low glycemic carbohydrates in the forms of fruits and vegetables.

For all of us, whether you are stricken with health conditions or exceptionally healthy you still need foods that provide your body with proper nutrients. Proper nutrients fuel your body in everything you do!

This Healing Foods Diet asks one following this diet to remove the BAD FATS and replacing them with GOOD FATS. What are Bad Fats?

Bad Fats are hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, trans fats, soybean oil, canola oil and vegetable oils, which could cause heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, chronic fatigue, and neurotoxic syndrome. Bad fats can also create chronic inflammation throughout the body inducing disease.

Good fats are essential to our body and can assist in hormone production, cancer prevention, brain development, weight loss, cellular healing, and anti-inflammation.

Changing the MEATS that you eat is more essential than we realize. Too often we trust that the meat at the grocery store is raised on a farm from somewhere nearby and feed proper diet of grass and other nature food.

Hundreds of studies have shown a link of commercial meats with cancer and heart disease. The grain fed to animals, which has consisted of genetically modified corn, and other GMO grains create hazardous results for our consumption.

Animals were created to eat grass. When animals eat these GMO grains it then changes fatty acid ratios, which is too much omega-6, and not enough omega-3, and denatures good fats, which could lead to modern day disease.

The bioaccumulation of commercial pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, and hormones in meats end up causing a toxic effect, on our bodies, which could lead to many cancers, neurological disorders and chronic illness.

Grass fed and free range meats offer many fatty acids which are missing in the Standard American Diet, such as: aracodonic acid, congegated linoleic acid, and Omega 3 fatty acids.

For years I have know that Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for our body, however we must be careful of this often mislead label on food that may not have Omega 3 fatty acids in it. The food corporations that create food in their labs, used these misleading labels as a ploy to get you to buy there chemically filled product.

The 2 Week Diet

Read labels and make sure you know the difference between descriptions of food versus descriptions of chemicals. A good hint is if you have a hard time reading the description on the label. These undecipherable names might very well be chemicals in your food.

Aracodonic acid, congegated linoleic acid may be hard to understand what these are. Congegated linoleic acid is a very powerful fatty acid primarily found in beef and dairy products. This has been discovered to be linked to long-term weight management and optimal health.

Aracodonic acid, is an omega-6 unsaturated fatty acid your body requires to function properly. Though your body requires arachidonic acid, getting too much of this essential nutrient could be problematic.

Congegated linoleic acid is found in grass fed meats. Aracodonic acid is found in meat, eggs, and some fish. Proper consumption of these natural acids is essential for our body health. However where does one start? What do we do? Do we attempt to eat all the foods on the Healthy Food list?

The best way to start is to slowly replace the bad foods you are currently consuming with one or three foods on the Healthy food list. Keep a food journal of which foods you respond well too and which ones you do not respond well to and then make adjustments to your diet.

What is on the Healing Food Diet? The Healing Food Diet is not just a diet; the plan is a tool that will bring you into a total health transformation. The Healing Food Diet was created to help anyone triumph over many diseases.

Can food really cure us? What is medicine made of? Most medicines have items in them that come from food and plant sources.

This Healing Food diet has been known to decrease inflammation, alkalize your body, lower blood glucose, eliminate toxins, and optimize nutrients.

To further explain the Healing Foods Diet, this diet consists of eating equal amounts (33% each) of clean protein sources, healthy fats, and low glycemic carbohydrates in the forms of fruits and vegetables. So this means removing the BAD FATS and replacing them with GOOD FATS. Change the MEATS that you EAT with grass fed meats and Remove ALL Refined SUGARS and GRAINS from your Diet.

This diet regiment seems like a tall order, however in the end you will benefit, and certainly do not change all of this at once. If you follow what I am doing, take bite size chunks at a time. My holistic doctor advised I go on a sugar free and gluten free diet. This will be tough however the consequences of not working on this will be tougher on my body and mind!

So in review, can food really be used as Medicine? The answer is yes! However make sure you are following what your health care provider instructions you to do, and you can do this Healing Foods Diet without sacrificing fun and taste!
