The Pain of Inflammation

What exactly is inflammation? I have experienced this pain in my body for a very long time. Inflammation in general covers a wide variety of body issues. Inflammation can happen anywhere from head to toe and inside and out. My inflammation issues cover the intestinal track, and my spinal cord, plus my joints.

Inflammation can flare up at anytime, from weather changes to not getting enough rest to food allergies. My health issues started when I was born and have been steadily plaguing me ever since. When it comes to inflammation it really is a body shut down, to where it is so hard to get anything done while the flare up is happening.

For years I was put on medication and seen doctors who could only prescribe medication and surgery which I ended up experienced both. Then later in my life, I was told that food and exercise could help correct or even cure my inflammation. At first I was in a cloud of disbelief due to being imprisoned in the medicine model.

What is a medicine model? It is a set of procedures in which all doctors are trained.

I had a hard time believing that food could ever correct my health issues. I did not find out to later that medicine does not cure anyone. Medication only places the medical condition on lockdown. The body needs nutrients in order to heal itself. Yes, despite what the medical doctors tell you, the body can heal itself with the right nutrients. Without the proper food for your body, your body can and will get sick. Basically your body cries out through pain in your body, indicating to you that it needs something.

We are so numb to hearing what our body needs, due to eating food that is equal to eating plastic! Also our body craves junk food. Our body can actually tell us what type of food to eat by us craving these foods, however we are so used to the junk food that we crave the minor nutrients found in junk food over food with abundant nutrients.

Your body cravings are locating a nutrient or nutrients that can also be in junk food however in very small doses and thus will do your body no good. So in my journey of trying to reduce inflammation, the first thing I had to do was eliminate foods that caused my health to crash. Then once I started on a diet that was better than what I was doing, I was then able to dump the medications that the doctors were prescribing.

I have to say, I am astonished by how the doctors treat patients. Mostly they are afraid to go against the medical model due to the penalties they could occur in not prescribing medications. If Doctors don’t prescribe medicines, they don’t get bonuses. If they prescribe nutritional supplements they could be fined or removed from practice.

One Doctor trying to help my Uncle get off of his medication, by prescribing nutrition, which did help him improve and he almost got off of all the medications, then ended up disappearing, and although my Uncle tried tracking his doctor down to receive his continued help, this Doctor was nowhere to be found. The doctor was missing in action.

The issues of medical practice never ceases to frighten me. Whether a Doctor is trapped by this or intentional in practicing this type of medicine, it must be known that there is a better way. I have told many to never get off their medications right away, but to start changing their diet, and make sure you have a good doctor who will be willing to get one off medications once their body improves.

Food was medicine for our ancestors. There are many accounts of which foods actually cured what health conditions they were ailing from. Why did we fall away from this nutritional practice? Was it due to Plato and his medicine that eventually became the practice of all medical practitioners in our modern day? Or did the food change and no longer was nutrient rich?

When food is prepared properly and is not sprayed with chemicals, this food is then good for the type of medicine our bodies truly needs. When I started eating real food produced by farmers and not from labs that corporations use to grow food, I started to feel a difference. I then found out about Nutraceuticals, which are vitamins in either pill or liquid form and are a supplementation to receiving proper nutrition.

My body started to respond well to nutraceuticals because this is what my body was crying out for all of those years of being trapped in the medication model. I went from looking like a pale crippled ghost to a healthy young man. Why are we not taught this? It may very well be due to greed of the pharmaceutical companies, who are too big to fail, or it could be our taught lifestyle and how we forgot of the heritage of our relatives and how they used food and herbs for remedies.

Many corporations benefit greatly from people being patients of the medical model. But enough of my soap box ranting! Let’s start to explore healthy alternates to inflammation of the body!

Omega 3 fatty acids, I have found are one the most important supplements for me to take. Taking supplements rich in these natural nutrients assists the body in having a more profound primary inflammatory response and at the same time, it minimizes the chronic inflammation responsible for pain and suffering. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in oily fish, walnuts, flax, hemp and to a lesser degree canola oil and sea vegetables. These natural foods have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Plant enzymes such as Bromelain assist the body as catalysts for the repair of our cells. Taken on an empty stomach, these enzymes can break down the byproducts of inflammation thus clearing the way for cellular repair.

It is essential for anyone suffering with inflammation to take an ample supply of Probiotics on a daily basis. Inflammation depends on a healthy immune system. Seventy percent of the cells of our immune system are found in the gastrointestinal tract. These cells are fed by short chain fatty acids, that do not exist in nature, which are the result of fermentation of complex carbohydrates which include whole grains, vegetables, beans, by the friendly bacteria (probiotics) of our intestinal lining.

It is important to consume a diet low in Omega 6-rich foods which includes meat, dairy, baked goods, flour products, and grains. This is helpful when looking to relieve inflammation. Although Omega 6 fatty acids are essential in any diet because they are the building blocks of chronic inflammation, which helps the body protect itself when it can’t repair itself efficiently, it will cause the immune system to bypass primary inflammation and default into chronic inflammation, when consumed in excess.

We require water to serve as the vehicle for all chemical reactions in the body. This helps flush out toxins from our body. Proper hydration becomes paramount in our diet! The daily requirement varies from individual to individual. Consult your physician for what amount of hydration is right for you. Try and reduce your intake of dehydrating liquids such as caffeinated beverages and alcohol. Clean, fresh water preferably filtered, distilled, or from a reliable spring is the right type of hydration for your body.
There are many things that influence inflammation and many other things that you can do to keep inflammation working efficiently in your body and minimizing the uncomfortable and often disabling effects of chronic inflammation, however the information listed about has helped me greatly with my inflammation. I am a man on the move and I like to keep it that way!
