What Good is it to Gain the World!

Today I heard the tragic news of a very popular and celebrated Chef who had his own award-winning tv show, take his life at age 61.

I was in shock and wondered why this could have happened, and then I realized, even though one could seemingly be at the top of the hill, it can be very lonely up there.

And a verse from the Bible, spoken by Jesus came to mind in Luke 9:25 (NIV)

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?

Too often I encounter people who say; “If I was popular and successful I would be happy!”

Or; “When I make it big, I can have peace of mind.”

Often we are finding that success is not about making it big, and rarely will you have peace of mind in becoming successful.

Instead, you may be overwhelmed in trying to achieve success and even at the top, you could lose your very self.

If you want to get your business off the ground and be successful, should you be in fear of what has happened to many who have become successful and then lost their life?

The simple answer is No.

Even though this celebrated Chef had many friends and a family, I wonder how strong his community really was?

How was his family life?

Often we don’t see what is going on in the inside of one life until a documentary of their personal life reveals the truth.

My recommendation is to not do your business life on your own. Instead, gather a community of like-minded people.

Forget about success and just follow your passion.

Be real with your family and friends on what may be going on in your life. It is ok to feel afraid to share and be vulnerable.

If you are dealing with tough issues, talk to a skilled professional sooner than later. I will not speak of depression in this post since it is a big topic to wrangle.

So will this information keep you from losing your life? Maybe not, but I believe it can help.

And I am not saying you should avoid success. Instead, when you find your passion and follow it, success will find you, and simply have measures in place to handle the pressures of success.

Are you just getting started in your business building?

Maybe you are successful but still, need guidance?
